Firms giving back: CBIZ donates over 1M lbs. of food

CBIZ collects over 1M lbs. of food for annual food drive

CBIZ announced this week that the firm's ninth annual Food Drive netted over 1.14 million pounds of donated items last December. The “Kickoff 2017: Tackle Hunger” theme marks the third consecutive year that the firm has collected more than one million pounds of donations, bringing the drive's total amount to 6.6 million pounds of food donated throughout its nine-year history.

"We couldn’t have done this without the spirit and creativity from many of our associates," the firm noted in a blog post. "Some local offices hosted fundraisers, like paint nights and a community shredding event, and many of our offices built unique displays to promote the Drive and build excitement."

The firm also held a friendly competition among its offices to determine which location could donate the most items, determined by the ratio of pounds of food collected to the number of office staff members. Winning offices will receive a cash donation to a local food pantry of their choice, in addition to an extra half-day of time off.

The 2017 winning offices were as follows:

  • Large office category (60 or more staff members) - CBIZ Phoenix, Ariz. (1,135.34 pounds per employee)
  • Medium office category (21-59 staff members) - CBIZ Nashville, Tenn. (1,354.29 pounds per employee)
  • Small office category (1-20 staff members) - CBIZ Greenville, S.C. (1,020.83 pounds per employee)

SD Mayer & Associates donates $15K towards local fire relief

San Francisco firm SD Mayer & Associates announced this week that it has raised $15,000 for victims of the North Bay fires that occurred in the area last Fall.

The donation includes $5,370 from staff community fundraisers and personal donations, dollar-for-dollar matches via the firm, and a donated vehicle to a family in need from SD Mayer's founder and managing partner Stephen Mayer.

“October’s North Bay fires were the most destructive in California history, and many of our friends and families are still devastated,” stated Mayer. “One of the core pillars of our business is to be active members in our communities. I am proud of our team for immediately launching a fundraising effort to support North Bay fire survivors. Our firm feels humbled and grateful to be in a position to provide support, and we urge others to contribute what they can to the North Bay fire relief efforts.”
