FreshBooks Offers Credit Card Reader for Android

FreshBooks has released a credit card reader for Android users of the cloud accounting software for small businesses.

FreshBooks Card Reader for Android helps small business owners accept credit card payments from anywhere using their mobile device.

The device uses up-to-date EMV security technology to provide both chip-and-swipe capabilities to protect small business owners from fraudulent transactions. Credit card information is not stored on the device and is encrypted for security. EMV capability is more important than ever following the recent liability shift from credit card companies to business owners last October.

The Android release follows the launch of the FreshBooks Card Reader for iOS in February (see FreshBooks Introduces Card Reader). FreshBooks found that more than 68 percent of the Card Reader’s earliest users for iPhone and iPad devices were already using EMV chip technology and similar high adoption rates are expected for Android users.

The Card Reader integrates with FreshBooks’ cloud-based accounting software. With each transaction, payment information is automatically captured. Invoices are marked as paid, clients receive a payment notification, and reports are updated. Users can accept Visa, MasterCard and Amex cards from their clients.
