Grant Thornton expands in the West Indies by merging with former BDO firm

A Grant Thornton firm in the West Indies has merged in a former BDO firm to expand its presence in the Caribbean.

Grant Thornton Windward Islands, the member firm for the four English-speaking countries that make up the Windward Islands—Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada—combined with Patterson & Co. (formerly BDO) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which has been in business for more than seven decades.

GT sees the deal as a way to strengthen its position in the local market and grow further. “This combination further strengthens Grant Thornton’s market leadership position, not only in the Windward Islands, but across the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, and also supports our focus, which continues to be helping our clients unlock and maximise their growth potential,” said Grant Thornton Windward Islands national managing partner Anthony Atkinson in a statement.

The deal will bring 17 new people to GT, including Patterson & Co managing partner Floyd Patterson, increasing the total number of people in the offices to 56. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Our team look forward with great optimism, given our mutual driver of working with clients to strengthen their competitiveness in an increasingly global market place, to joining Anthony and his team at Grant Thornton Windward Islands to assist our Caribbean clients in unlocking their potential,” Patterson said in a statement.
