H&R Block opens offices early

H&R Block opened its 10,000 offices nationwide on Tuesday for the upcoming filing season, and is offering free filing of the 1040EZ for a limited time at participating offices.

1040EZ filers generally don’t pay mortgage interest, have no dependents, and earn less than $100,000 a year. Taxpayers can find the nearest participating office on Block’s Web site.( https://www.hrblock.com/offers/free-ez/)

The prep chain is also offering the new Tax Pro Go, a virtual filing system that enables clients to get their taxes prepared and filed based on information clients provide online. Prices start at less than $60 for one federal and one state return.

“Filing a simple tax return may not be as easy as many taxpayers believe, especially if they are new filers, experienced a life change in 2017, face IRS refund delays or are concerned about how tax reform legislation will affect them in 2018, including the impact to their paychecks starting as early as February,” said senior vice president of U.S. retail Karen Orosco in a statement.
