H&R Block’s nonprofit referral program generated donations for more than 2,400 nonprofits this year, totaling more than $1 million for the second consecutive season.
The program awarded nonprofits $20 for each new client they referred to the tax prep chain giant or to Block Advisors for prep.
In 2018, the program contributed more than $1 million to participating 501(c)(3), 501(c)(6), 501(c)(19) and 501(c)(23) organizations such as schools, chambers of commerce, and veterans’ organizations. Nonprofits that have used the program range from Make-A-Wish foundations and the National Center for Farmworker Health to music festivals, a gastroschisis foundation and the U.S. Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association.
Nonprofits often see a spike in donations toward the end of year as taxpayers bump up donation deductions, according to Block. Donations typically decline at the beginning of the year.
