R&B singer R. Kelly owes more than $4.8 million in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, but is trying to sort out his financial problems.

The singer of the hit single “I Believe I Can Fly” has not paid his taxes since 2005, according to TMZ. But a spokesperson said he “is in the process of working everything out with the government and is confident that all his obligations will be satisfied.”

Last year, the IRS filed a tax lien for $837,442.59 against the singer, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly (see Singer R. Kelly Faces Tax Lien). He also faced foreclosure against his Chicago-area mansion, which is now up for sale, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Kelly scored a Grammy nomination for an album he released last year and his new album, "Write Me Back," is out this month. The IFC network also plans to produce more episodes of his TV “hiphopera,” “Trapped in the Closet.”
