IRS Agent Busted for Trying to Bribe Police Officers

An Internal Revenue Service employee was arrested last week after knocking a woman unconscious at a Pittsburgh Steelers game and then trying to bribe several police officers to cover up the incident.

Stephen Sapp was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, defiant trespass and bribery, according to CBSSports.com and the local Pittsburgh CBS station, KDKA-TV. The 29-year-old was allegedly drunk and began pushing and throwing steel dividers near a gate at Heinz Field at a Sunday evening game on November 3, according to a police report obtained by the local TV station. The police warned Sapp he would be arrested if he didn’t stop, but he kicked another of the barriers so hard that it came out of the ground and hit a woman sitting on the other side of it in the head.

Police officers then arrested him, but Sapp allegedly tried to resist arrest. Once the police managed to get the handcuffs around him, he reportedly said to them, “Listen, I know how this works. How much money will it take to make this go away and to let me go home today?”

The police rejected the bribery attempt, at which point Sapp allegedly said, “Look, I am an IRS agent and I can help you in other ways if you let me go home and make this go away.”

That did not work either. After Sapp was brought to a hospital to be treated for the cuts and scratches he sustained while being arrested, he was taken to jail on a $10,000 bond.
