Jackson Hewitt Offers Help with Obamacare

Jackson Hewitt Tax Service will offer customers free help enrolling in new insurance options under the Affordable Care Act.

Starting with the 2014 season, customers in some 6,800 Jackson Hewitt stores nationwide can apply for the premium assistance tax credit and find health plans.

Hewitt, which has teamed with the private health insurance exchange Getinsured, will also help Medicaid-eligible customers enroll and help eligible customers apply for their state’s Medicaid program and Children’s Health Insurance Program.

“The tax filing season is the ideal moment to get folks enrolled in health insurance,” said Brian Haile, senior vice president for health care policy at Jackson Hewitt.

Under the ACA, most people will pay a tax penalty of about 1 percent of their annual income if they lack health coverage, according to an online primer from Jackson Hewitt.
