Missouri State student wins IMA's 'McLeod Memorial' scholarship

Luke Harris, an accounting graduate student at Missouri State University, was recently awarded the Stuart Cameron & Margaret McLeod Memorial Scholarship from the Institute of Management Accountants last month.

Harris, the lone recipient of the award, won over students from across the U.S. Awarded annually since 1934 by the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society, the award looks to recognize those who "serve the IMA through friendship, fellowship, and service," according to the Institute.

Applicants needed to be active members of the IMA student chapter in addition to completing applications with two letters of recommendation. Following graduation, Harris says he plans on pursuing a career in auditing at a public accounting firm.

“I was shocked when I first found out,” Harris told Missouri State's website. “I think it is my duty as a student to actively build relationships and seek out opportunities. That way, I can ensure I will leave college with a wealth of knowledge as I start my career.”

Harris will also get to speak at the IMA Student and Educator Awards Luncheon on November 2 in St. Louis.
