The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants announced that Shay Blanchette, senior lecturer and MSA faculty director at Babson College, has won the 2018 Outstanding Educator of the Year award. Blanchette, of Foxboro, Mass., was chosen for her contributions to the profession and her role in extending the MSCPA's outreach to academia.

“The accounting industry is growing and relying on professors like Shay to cultivate the next generations of CPAs and ready them for the ever-changing workplace,” stated Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. “Shay has been an active member of the society and the profession for many years and we’re delighted to honor her for her contributions both inside and outside of the classroom.”

On campus, Blanchette helps build Babson's accounting curriculum and connects campus career centers with local accounting firms. Blanchette is a faculty member on the Babson College Audit Committee and was recently named to the MSCPA's board of directors. She also serves on the MSCPA’s Academic and Career Development Committee, which has coordinated the society’s “Is Accounting for Me?” conference for local high school students. She previously received the MSCPA/AICPA’s “Women to Watch Award - Experienced Leaders” award in 2014.

Recipients of the MSCPA's Educator of the Year award must be a full-time accounting educator at a college or university who has shown excellence in classroom teaching, inspiring students and/or educational innovation.
