ASIA-PACIFIC

Sajjad Akhtar, managing partner of PKF-CAP LLP, Singapore and Chairman of the PKFI Asia-Pacific Board PKF International Limited, has been appointed as the new Chairman of PKF International. Akhtar succeeds Wolfgang Hofmann who stepped down in March 2013.

REPUBLIC of KOREA

Hae-Young Kim, an international tax services partner at Ernst & Young LLP was honored at an event held by Se-Joo Son, Consul General of the Republic of Korea at the Korean General Consulate in New York City. Kim was recognized for her continued assistance and counsel to the government of Korea with the modernization of its tax administration. This is the third time. Kim has been the recipient of this award.

Shreedhar Kothari, vice president at Gumbiner Savett Inc., managed to stick to his duties for the Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles during the busy tax season. Kothari sits as a board member and treasurer for the Indian Film Festival, which ran through April 9 to April 14. … Ruchika Garga has joined CohnReznick LLP, Los Angeles, as a partner in the tax department. … Arthur Chin has been named division director for business development and operations at the California Society of CPAs Education Foundation, San Mateo. … Former IRS professional Richard Little has joined Deloitte Tax as a senior manager in the multistate tax practice. … Cindy McKenzie has joined PwC’s U.S.’ Entertainment, Media and Communications practice as a managing director in the firm’s Southern California office.

CONNECTICUT

John Zinno, office managing partner at BlumShapiro lead the United Way of Greater Waterbury’s Capital Campaign. Zinno, the campaign chair of the 2012-2013 United Way of Greater Waterbury’s Annual Campaign, thanked participants for their contributions, which collectively raised more than $3,540,000 for United Way.

ILLINOIS

Benjamin Shamis has joined SS&G Health Care, Oak Brook, as a financial analyst. … Allen Smith, chief information officer at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP, Chicago, was recently elected chair of the Baker Tilly International Internal Information Technology Committee.

Ben Vance, senior consultant at Postlethwaite & Netterville APAC, and consulting manager Jude Viator, have graduated from the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants first-ever Leadership Academy. TENNESSEE

The Financial Accounting Foundation has named former National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Chair and Iowa Auditor of State, David Vaudt, as the next chairman of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. Vaudt will begin serving a single, seven-year term effective July 1, 2013, upon the retirement of current GASB Chairman Robert Attamore.

Douglas Sirotta has been named a senior tax partner at Ernst & Young LLP’s Seattle office.

WASHINGTON D.C.

John Parcell, former deputy tax legislative counsel with the Department of Treasury, has joined Ernst & Young LLP’s national tax practice. Parcell will work out of the Washington, D.C. office where he will advise clients on tax policy matters and assist in technical analysis. 

WISCONSIN

Schenck, SC, Appleton acknowledged several of its employees for their years of service to the firm.
