Rainmaker Cos. Transitions Ownership

The Rainmaker Companies has announced a transition in ownership. The group, which provides training, consulting and networking to accounting firms, will be led by newly appointed CEO Dan Brooks and president Angie Grissom, along with long-time firm executives Scott Bradbary, Patrick Pruett and Adelaide Ness.

Founder Troy Waugh will remain involved in the group, working with his consulting clients, as well as writing and speaking at industry events.

“These leadership changes are the culmination of a planned succession-planning process, which aims to ensure continuity of top-quality programs and measurable results for our clients,” Waugh said. “We teach the importance of succession planning and leadership development, and what better way to prove our principles than to successfully practice what we preach? I can’t think of a better, more capable team to continue building on the strong foundation we have created together.”

Brooks joined the firm in 2013, after building the McGladrey Alliance and running his own professional services consulting practice. Grissom has been with Rainmaker for 12 years, and has served as president and COO for the past few years.

“We’ve been working on a transition and succession plan for the past six or seven years, but specifically for the last six months,” Grissom said in an interview. “Our goal as a company is to take the 22 years of success and results and really move into the future helping to shape the accounting industry and to shape the leaders in the accounting industry. And having gone through a successful transition ourselves, we’re excited about helping others move through the same thing.”

“Professional service firms are continually facing succession and growth challenges,” said Brooks. “As we work to raise the bar for success within The Rainmaker Companies, we will apply that same focus to our clients -- creating highly customized solutions designed to help leaders set new standards of excellence for their own firms.”

The group was founded by Waugh in 1992, and provides business development and leadership training through The Rainmaker Academy, strategic planning and growth support through The Rainmaker Consulting Group, and firm networking through Enterprise Worldwide and six industry-specific accounting alliances.
