Almost Half Think ACA Enrollment Is Closed: Survey

Nearly half (48%) of all American adults believe that the deadline to register for 2015 health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act has expired, a new survey has found.

Another 27% “don’t know” if the enrollment period has expired or not, according to the report, which was conducted by tax prep franchise Jackson Hewitt.

An extra enrollment period for ObamaCare runs through April 30 for those who owe the ACA tax for 2014 and were confused about enrollment for 2015, according to Obamacare Facts. This provides an extra enrollment opportunity to avoid the fee for the rest of 2015.

The tax penalty for being uninsured in 2015 is $325 per adult and $162.50 per child, or up to 2% of household income, whichever is greater.

Hewitt has partnered with GetInsured, an online health-insurance marketplace, to help tax prep clients access tax credits and sign up for insurance.
