ATAX Plans Expansion after Strong Tax Season

ATAX, a Latino-owned tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services franchise company, reported Monday that the 2015 tax season was its strongest since it began franchising in 2007.

From January 1 through April 30, 2015, ATAX’s 40 locations combined to show an increase of more than 16 percent in the number of returns prepared in the 2015 tax season versus 2014.

The ATAX network of locations includes its corporate-owned center in New York City’s Marble Hill neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, and 39 franchise locations from New York to Florida. The company plans to have more than 100 locations open or in development in the next 20 months. In addition, ATAX has a significant number of new openings on the horizon in 2015.

As part of the more than 16 percent overall increase in the number of returns prepared in 2015, the company also reported increases of more than 19 percent in bank product returns, and more than 6 percent in corporate tax returns.

ATAX did not report exact revenue figures, but said its revenues increased more than 10 percent over a year ago.

ATAX CEO Rafael Alvarez founded the company 30 years ago and anticipates further revenue increases as more franchisees adapt the bookkeeping and payroll systems that his company has implemented. ATAX partners with the cloud accounting software developer Xero, and Xero recently named ATAX its 2015 Emerging Partner of the Year.

“We’re an inspired organization, and it is reflecting in how our clients are gravitating towards us annually in larger and larger numbers,” Alvarez said in a statement.
