VITA Program Processes Record 3.4 Mn Returns

The Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program processed a record 3.4 million tax returns in 2015.

The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $53,000 or less, people with disabilities, the elderly, and taxpayers with limited English.

VITA sites, which are staffed by thousands of IRS-certified volunteers, are located at community centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls and other convenient locations.

More than 99 percent of the 3.4 million returns were processed using the TaxWise tax prep solution from the Small Firm Services unit of Wolters Kluwer.
