Vertex integrates with e-commerce platform Magento

Vertex has teamed up with Magento Commerce to give the users of the latter's e-commerce platform direct access to Vertex’s automated sales and use tax technology.

The integration offers tax calculations to online retailers at a time when the Supreme Court is set to decide a case by next month that could force more online merchants to collect sales taxes from out-of-state customers, potentially overturning the decades-old precedent set in the landmark Quill decision.

Magento announced the integration with Vertex during a Magento conference last week. Magento users will now be able to access pre-installed Vertex sales tax software directly from the Magento Commerce administration panel. The integration promises to automate sales tax calculations for all transactions performed by Magento merchants, automatically update tax content and taxability determinations across different jurisdictions and countries, and enable merchants to maintain exemption certificates, process coupons and discount codes, and generate signature-ready PDF returns.

“The goal of the integration is to make automated tax calculation a reality for online retailers so they can focus on sales and business goals, rather than the latest tax rates and rules,” said Vertex sales director Bradd Wildstein in a statement.
