Wipfli merges in Bauerle

Wipfli LLP, a Top 100 Firm, has expanded into Colorado by adding Bauerle and Company, a CPA firm based in Denver, effective Thursday, Feb. 1.

As part of the merger, more than 80 Bauerle and Company professionals, including 13 partners and 67 associates, have joined more than 1,900 professionals at Wipfli. The combined firm will have more than 2,000 associates and 49 office locations across the U.S., plus two offices in India.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Milwaukee-based Wipfli ranked 22nd on Accounting Today’s 2017 list of the Top 100 Firms. It had annual revenue of $275 million for the fiscal year ending May 31, 2017.

“We are pleased to welcome Bauerle and Company’s associates to Wipfli,” said Wipfli managing partner Rick Dreher in a statement. “Our firm has been seeking to broaden our geographic footprint into Colorado for some time. This combination with Bauerle and Company, an esteemed CPA and consulting firm in the Colorado area, will strengthen our foothold in the western United States and enhance our industry and service specializations in the construction and real estate industry.”

Bauerle and Company was founded in 1979 and has offices in both Denver and Loveland, Colorado. The firm offers accounting, assurance, tax and advisory services to hundreds of privately held businesses and individuals in Colorado, focusing on the construction and real estate industry.

“Both Wipfli and Bauerle and Company are long-time service providers with similar cultures and a shared dedication to the success of our clients and our employees,” said Bauerle managing partners Tom Dosen in a statement. “This combination with Wipfli, a top 20 CPA firm, and our joint capabilities will allow our firm to better serve the growing needs and future growth opportunities of our small and midsized clients.”

Wipfli frequently participates in M&A deals. Last month, the firm added Kessler Orlean Silver & Co. in Chicago. Wipfli did five other deals last year. In December, Wipfli added a firm in its hometown of Milwaukee called Sattell, Johnson, Appel & Co. Before that, Wipfli merged in Joseph Eve in Great Falls, Mont., in October, Barefoot Technologies in Minneapolis and Horwich Coleman Levin in Chicago in February, and BIK & Co. in Chicago last January.
