Citrin Cooperman honors partner's cancer battle in Relay for Life

A team from the Philadelphia office of accounting, tax and business consulting firm Citrin Cooperman raised more than $5,500 for the American Cancer Society during Relay for Life in Ocean City, N.J., June 22-23.

As the top-earning team, Citrin Cooperman Cares was especially motivated by the event’s top-earning participant: their team captain and firm partner Jeff Gittler, who will celebrate one year of being cancer-free in August.

“I hope that my success will be an inspiration for others who are similarly diagnosed,” stated Gittler, who was awaiting surgery to treat kidney cancer in June 2011. “There is a light at the end of the tunnel after a cancer diagnosis. I would like to thank my colleagues who participated in this year’s Relay for Life, as well as the wonderful donors who helped us far exceed our fundraising goal of $1,000.”

Gitler personally raised more than $2,100.

During the 24-hour Relay for Life events, participant teams camp out at and take turns running or walking around a path or track while remembering lost loved ones or honoring those fighting the disease.

“Citrin Cooperman is proud to support the American Cancer Society and our own Jeff Gittler through the firm’s participation in Relay for Life,” said Philadelphia managing partner Mark S. Carrow, who participated in the event, in a statement. “We thank our team members and donors for their assistance this year, and look forward to supporting and participating in Relay 2013.”
