WNDE celebrates Movember to support cancer research

Things got hairy for 18 members of Irvine, Calif.-based accounting firm White Nelson Diehl Evans who raised $1,521 to fight prostate and testicular cancer by growing mustaches in support of the annual “Movember” fundraiser.

Their facial hair helps raise awareness for the disease, while the money goes toward funding cancer research. The participating men started growing their mustaches on November 1, soliciting donations for colleagues, family and friends.

“We had great participation by members of the firm, putting us in the top 20 percent of fundraisers among companies in the United States,” stated Baru Sanchez, a WNDE senior audit associate who served as Movember team captain. “We’re especially pleased since this is the first time the firm has participated in Movember.”

WNDE partner Thomas Kretschmar achieved the highest individual fundraising amount at $556, while staff member Joshua Basile took home the “best mustache” award.

The hair theme will persist for the next firm-wide fundraiser in April, when men will be encouraged to shave their heads as part of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser to fight pediatric cancer.
