Gabriel Petek

Managing Director- US Public Finance, State and Local Government

Gabriel Petek, CFA is a Managing Director in the U.S. States Division of the U.S. Public Finance Department of Standard & Poor’s Credit Market Services in San Francisco. Mr. Petek is S&P’s primary analyst for the states of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. Mr. Petek represents the Public Finance Department on S&P’s North American Credit Conditions Committee and helps coordinate its research and thought leadership efforts.Mr. Petek holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and earned his BA, magna cum laude, in political science from Loyola Marymount University where he was awarded the Stanley Chan Award, given to the top political science scholar as recognized by the faculty. A portion of Mr. Petek’s undergraduate work was completed at the London School of Economics and Political Science where he was a Hansard Scholar. Mr. Petek holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is an active member of the CFA Society of San Francisco. Mr. Petek is an advisor to the GFOA’s Committee on Governmental Budgeting and Fiscal Policy. In addition, Mr. Petek is a member of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA) and is on the board of the California Society of Municipal Analysts, the local affiliate of the NFMA. Prior to joining Standard & Poor’s, Mr. Petek worked as a budget analyst at the City of Boston’s Office of Budget Management.
