Karen R. Haefling

Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Karen R. Haefling, the executive vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for KeyCorp, is responsible for brand management, marketing strategy, public relations, advertising, promotions, market research, database marketing, internal communications and sponsorships. KeyCorp’s major brands include KeyBank, KeyBanc Capital Markets, and Victory Capital Management. Haefling joined Key in 1995 and served as marketing director for various geographic areas and business units before being named Chief Marketing Officer in 1998. She also serves on KeyCorp’s 11 member Management Committee, and sponsors Key’s Executive Women’s Network and it’s Green Council. From 1984 to 1995, Haefling worked at Bankers Trust Company in New York City, where she served as vice president and manager of Marketing Services in the Global Investment Bank. There, she managed an international staff of marketing, communications, research and information professionals in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Haefling began her career in banking at Central National Bank of Cleveland where she was the director of market planning and research. Haefling earned an MBA from Kent State University in 1979 and a Bachelors in Business Administration from Ohio University in 1976. She serves on the boards of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, The National Direct Marketing Association, KeyBank Foundation, and In Counsel With Women. She also serves on the advisory committees for the Cleveland Foundation, the United Way, University Hospitals, Team NEO and ideastream.
