Lawrence Gramling, PhD, CPA

Professor Larry Gramling has been a member of the Faculty of the Accounting Department in the School of Business at the University of Connecticut in Storrs since 1980. He is the Assistant Department Head in charge of undergraduate studies. He previously taught at the University of Maryland and the University of Southern Maine. His teaching interests include Assurance Services (auditing) and Financial Accounting. Larry has been developing and presenting professional accounting seminars to CPA associations as well as to regional and local CPA firms throughout the country, for over 30 years. He is currently co-author of the highly acclaimed Professional Training for the Local Firm – Level 2 staff training course. He has also consulted with various CPA firms concerning their quality control systems, including conducting peer review inspections.Larry served as President of the Connecticut Society of CPAs in 2000 – 2001 and served two terms on the CSCPA’s Board of Governors. He recently served a 3-year term as a Connecticut representative to the AICPA Council. He has previously chaired the CSCPA’s Accounting and Reporting Standards, Peer Review, Strategic Planning, and Educators committees. He has served on many other CSCPA committees including various committees on accounting and auditing regulation. He is currently serving as a trustee and chair of the CSCPA’s Educational Trust Fund.Professor Gramling has published in various professional and academic journals including Issues in Accounting Education, The CPA Journal and the Connecticut CPA. In addition, Larry is currently the coordinator of the University of Connecticut’s award-winning seminar Introduction to a Profession, which received the national Joint AICPA – AAA Collaboration Award for the best example of collaboration between accounting practitioners and academics.Larry received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, his MBA from Northeastern University and his BS in Accounting, cum laude, from the University of Scranton. He has previous experience as a member of the professional auditing staff of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Boston office.
