The National Association of Black Accountants announced four new scholarships added to the NABA Scholarship Program: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Hidden Figures Scholarship; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship; Claudette Griffin Memorial Scholarship; and Ralph and Valerie Thomas Scholarship. The new scholarships bring NABA’s total to fourteen. The Maryland Association of CPAs has partnered with IBM to equip finance professionals with skills in artificial intelligence, big data and cognitive computing. IBM will provide an advanced cognitive and data skills platform to accountants so they can acquire these data science, business analytics and AI skills. Interactive cognitive courses will be delivered through IBM’s Big Data University via the Business Learning Institute, the MACPA’s learning and innovation subsidiary. (Read the full story.)

NEW YORK

The New York State Society of CPAs held its second annual Moynihan Fund Gala, a fundraising benefit to support the next generation of New York CPAs, May 17 at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The gala benefits the Moynihan Fund, which provides support for the NYSSCPA’s academic scholarships and college readiness programs for New York high school and college students. Baker Tilly and Crowe Horwath were both presenting sponsors.

Marcum is hosting its 2017 Marcum MicroCap Conference, a national recognized forum for publicly traded companies with less than $500 million in market capitalization to network with fund managers and high-net-worth investors, June 15-16 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.
