CALIFORNIA

The California Society of CPAs, Los Angeles, honored five recipients with Women to Watch Awards: Shari Freidenrich, Orange County treasurer; Rochelle N. Nakajima, a director at SingerLewak LLP, Los Angeles; and Lynda Schauer, director of litigation and principal at Zivetz, Schwartz and Saltsman, received Experienced Leader Awards; and Alicia Cerruti, a senior tax manager at Pisenti & Brinker LLP, and Ashley Casey, an audit manager at Brown Armstrong Accountancy, received Emerging Leader Awards.

CONNECTICUT

The Financial Accounting Standards Board, Norwalk, appointed three new members to its Small Business Advisory Committee: K. Scott Gray, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Luby’s Inc.; Dominick Kerr, director of the global accounting practice, Connor Group; and Ryan LaFond, partner and deputy chief investment officer, Algert Global.

MichaelSilver, Skokie, was named one of the Best Places to Work in Illinois 2018.

INDIANA

Blue & Co., Carmel, ranked No. 1 in the Medium-Sized Business Category for the Best Places to Work in Kentucky awards, a project of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group.

MARYLAND

The Maryland Association of CPAs and the Business Learning Institute, Towson, launched a weekly podcast, “Future-Proof: A Podcast for Tomorrow’s Accounting and Finance Pros,” hosted by MACPA / BLI chief communication officer Bill Sheridan and featuring interviews with forward-thinking futurists and thought leaders. The podcast is available on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, and Stitcher.

MASSACHUSETTS

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs announced Shay Blanchette is the winner of its Outstanding Educator of the Year Award for 2018. Blanchette, a Foxboro resident, is a senior lecturer and MSA faculty director at Babson College.

OHIO

PENNSYLVANIA

The Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, Philadelphia, released a new Federal Tax Reform Guide as a digital-only special edition of its publication the Pennsylvania CPA Journal. The guide, which includes 11 in-depth feature articles from multiple CPA experts that provide detailed insight on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, is available here.
