CONNECTICUT

HONG KONG

The Hong Kong Institute of CPAs elected Eric Tong as president, and Law Fu Yuen, Patrick and Kong Chi How, Johnson as vice presidents for 2018.

ILLINOIS

UHY, Chicago, released a new study on the growth of U.S. businesses, finding that the total number of those businesses increased by 2 percent last year, compared to an 8 percent rise in business growth across a range of global economies studied. There were 11 million businesses in total in the U.S. in 2016, and 10.8 million in 2015.

Chunowitz, Teitelbaum & Mandel, Lincolnshire, announced several changes, including a name change to CTM and a new logo. The firm is also launching a new, more user-friendly website in 2018 and is offering employers a new payroll processing solution.

INDIANA

The Indiana CPA Society won two awards at the 2018 STAR Awards banquet for associations in Indiana Dec. 7. The Indiana CPA Society won the Innovative Communications Program award for its collaboration with the CPA Center of Excellence to research and implement innovation, and the Innovative Marketing Campaign award for its Political Action Committee “Back PAC” campaign to raise awareness for the PAC across all communication channels.

PENNSYLVANIA

Maher Duessel, Pittsburgh, was named one of the Best Places to Work in PA for 2017, a program that is a partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development , the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Central Penn Business Journal. The firm was recognized at a Nov. 30 reception at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

SINGAPORE

Saw Meng Tee and Partners PAC, Singapore, was admitted as a member of the EisnerAmper Global network, and will now be known as EisnerAmper PAC.

TENNESSEE

LBMC, Brentwood, held its inaugural “Lending Hands” event in lieu of the annual holiday party, with 150 employees volunteering with local nonprofits in all three Tennessee offices Dec. 4 -8. Employees donated their time to 20 NFPs by participating in activities like sorting and wrapping gifts for children and senior who might not otherwise receive them, providing tutoring and homework help for homeless children, and delivering boxes of food to those in need.
