ILLINOIS

Joel Baxley, financial advisory services director at RSM, Chicago, was confirmed by the White House as the USDA’s Administrator of Rural Housing Services, to report to the Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development, Anne Hazlett, effective April 30, 2018. In other firm news, RSM selected 10 students to receive $10,000 each toward their 2018-19 tuition through the RSM US Foundation’s national scholarship program Power Your Education. Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams, Chicago, received a Golden Horizon Interactive Award in the 2017 E-Card Best of Category for its recent holiday e-card, which was designed by Plano, Texas-based company Greeting Card Collection Portfolio. The Horizon Interactive Awards is an international competition recognizing the achievements of interactive media producers.

KENTUCKY

TrinSoft, Lexington, sponsored a table at the Dream Factory’s Story Book Dreams Annual Gala on April 21 at the Taylor Made Farm Yearling Complex in Nicholasville, which featured silent and live auctions to raise funds to grant dreams to children with critical or chronic illnesses. Founded in Hopkinsville, the Dream Factory now has 38 chapters nationwide, including in Lexington, committed to granting dreams to children ages 3 to 18.

MAINE

BerryDunn has moved offices in Bangor, with the new location downtown providing room for growth. The firm has had a presence in Bangor since 1983. The new office is located at 23 Water Street, Suite 101.

NEW JERSEY

The New Jersey Society of CPAs, Roseland, awarded nearly $375,000 in scholarships to 70 New Jersey high school and college students at its 58th Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the Pines Manor in Edison April 24. Fifteen four-year awards of $7,000 were presented to high school students and 34 one-year awards of $6,000 each were bestowed to college students. The NJCPA’s Atlantic/Cape May, Bergen and Mercer chapters also presented various sums of awards to local students, and five minority awards were presented in conjunction with the American Institute of CPAs and the National Association of Black Accountants.

High school seniors who were awarded four-year scholarships currently reside in Allendale, Denville, Harrington Park, Kendall Park, Little Egg Harbor, Marlton, Montville, North Caldwell, Parsippany, Towaco, Wayne and Whippany. New Jersey-based college recipients currently attend Bergen Community College, Caldwell University, The College of New Jersey, Fairfield University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Felician University, Monmouth University, Montclair State University, New Jersey City University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, Rider University, Rowan University, Rutgers Business School, Rutgers University, Rutgers University-Newark, Seton Hall University, Stockton University, University of Delaware, University of Maryland: College Park, University of Scranton and William Paterson University of New Jersey.

Lori Reiner, partner-in-charge of the Philadelphia office of EisnerAmper, was named a 2018 Influencer of Finance by the Philadelphia Media Network, publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com. NORTH CAROLINA

OHIO

The Ohio Society of CPAs, Columbus, joined Ohio Business Competes, a nonpartisan coalition of businesses committed to achieving LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination policies at the state level. OSCPA, representing 27,000 members, is also officially supporting House Bill 160, which seeks to expand Ohio’s civil rights laws to provide legal protections for gender identity or expression and sexual orientation. The bill is currently before the House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee. The society’s own diversity and inclusion strategy focuses on building its acumen in diversity and inclusion, along with expanding programs to recruit more underrepresented students to accounting careers.
