BELGIUM

Keith Farlinger, former CEO of BDO Canada and current member of the network’s global leadership team in the role of CEO Americas, was named CEO of the international BDO network, Brussels, succeeding Martin van Roekel, who will step down Oct. 31, 2017 after six years in the role.

GEORGIA

Rodney Chandler, partner at Smith, Adcock and Co., Athens, was elected chair of the Georgia Society of CPAs’ board of directors for the 2017-18 fiscal year, for a one-year term.

ILLINOIS

The Illinois CPA Society held its annual Leadership Recognition Awards event in Chicago, honoring the following professionals: for the 2017 Young Professional Leadership Award, Timm Bellazzini, partner at Sikich in Naperville; for the 2017 Lester H. McKeever Jr. Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Diversity Award, Stella Marie B. Santos, managing partner at Adelfia in Chicago; for the 2017 Lester H. McKeever Jr. Emerging Leader in Advancing Diversity Award, Marques Fisher, assurance manager at PwC, Chicago; for 2017 Outstanding Educator Awards, Julia Shapland, lecturer of accountancy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Gregory Tapis, assistant professor at Augustana College in Rock Island; and Everett Westmeyer, accounting faculty at Kishwaukee College in Malta. The society also gave its 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award to Mary Ann Webb, managing partner at Sulaski & Webb CPAs in Bloomington.

Syed Hussain Ahmed was promoted to senior tax associate at Rodman CPAs, Natick and Waltham, and earned his CPA license.

MISSOURI

Donna Erbs, chief marketing officer at Anders, St. Louis, was named to St. Louis Business Journal’s 2017 Most Influential Business Women. Erbs is one of 25 listed women, chosen of 200 nominations, who will be honored at an awards luncheon Aug. 11.

NEVADA

Scott Sprinkle received the American Institute of CPAs’ 2016 Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award, bestowed annually to an AICPA member whose volunteer efforts have made significant contributions to the personal financial planning profession, presented at the AICPA’s Advanced PFP Conference in Las Vegas.

The Association for Accounting Marketing announced the recipients of its individual Marketing Achievement Awards at the AAM-MAA Gala June 14 at the organization’s annual summit in Las Vegas. The recipients are: Jaime Thomas, inducted into the AAM Hall of Fame, which honors members with ten years or more of service and outstanding leadership accomplishments; Laura Kucera, chief marketing officer at Citrin Cooperman, as Marketer of the Year, presented to an experienced marketer who is well-recognized for the high quality of their work and results; Nicole Sterling, of RSW Accounting and Consulting, as Volunteer of the Year, awarded for dedication to AAM, involvement on committees and special projects and professional accomplishments; and Jeshanah McLeod, marketing coordinator at Brown Schultz Sheridan and Fitz, as Rookie of the Year, presented to a marketer on the rise demonstrating distinction in the field.

NEW JERSEY

Dawn Brown was hired as a senior financial planner at Lassus Wherley, New Providence.

NEW YORK

Michael Poveda was named partner-in-charge of the Albany market at Grant Thornton.

Jeffrey Weiner was named chairman and chief executive officer and David Bukzin vice chairman of Marcum, New York. Weiner previously served as managing partner since 1990. Bukzin held several roles, including partner-in-charge of the SEC services practice group, and he will continue to lead the national SEC practices along with the firm’s New York City office. David Kessler, national director of the commercial real estate industry practice, Mike Micholas, regional managing partner of the Mid-Atlantic region, and Alan Wolfson, office managing partner of the New York City office, were elected to serve on the executive board of CohnReznick, New York. The terms are three years with provisions for re-election. Additionally, Risa Lavine, principal and chief of staff, was re-elected to the board.

Paul Becht, partner at Margolin, Winer & Evens, New York, was elected vice president of the New York State Society of CPAs’ board of directors, for a one-year term.

OHIO

David Folkwein was hired as director of business development for the Cincinnati office of GBQ.

The Ohio Society of CPAs installed its new 2017-18 executive board members: John Venturella, shareholder-in-charge at Clark Schaefer Hackett & Co., as chair-elect; William Chorba, CFO of NineSigma, as immediate past chair; Owen Wyss, financial controller at Thompson Concrete Ltd., as vice chair, finance; and to new, three-year terms on the executive board: Libby Cullins, vice president and controller, JPMorgan Chase & Co.; Crystal Faulkner, partner, Mountjoy Chilton Medley; Paul Nungester, senior vice president and controller, Welltower; Lori Kaiser, CEO, Kaiser Consulting. The society also honored Jan Eighme, senior lecturer in the accounting department at Miami University, with the Outstanding Accounting Educator award.

PENNSYLVANIA

Wendy Lance, tax services group partner at RKL, Lancaster, was named one of the 2017 Women of Influence by the Central Penn Business Journal, which honors 30 established female leaders in the mid-state for professional excellence, business accomplishments and community service. Lance and the other honorees will receive their awards at a June 26 luncheon at the Hilton Harrisburg.

TEXAS

Brooke Borden was appointed senior managing director of Baker Tilly Capital, Austin.

UNITED KINGDOM

Nick Anderson, previously global equity portfolio manager and head of equity research at Janus Henderson Investors in the U.K., and Ann Tarca, accounting teacher, researcher and professor at the University of Western Australia’s Business School, were appointed board members of the International Accounting Standards Board. The appointments are for an initial five-year term effective this year.
