CALIFORNIA

Orla O’Connor was hired as a principal in the business tax services practice at KPMG, San Francisco.

Margaret Critzer, a transfer pricing expert, was hired as a senior advisor in the San Jose office of Alvarez & Marsal.

CONNECTICUT

The Board of Trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation reappointed Andrew McMaster as Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council chairman for a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2019; reappointed 22 FASAC members; and appointed nine new members. The new FASAC members, who will be serving a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2018, and eligible for reappointment for three additional one-year terms: Avi Berg, managing director and portfolio manager, Elm Ridge Capital Management; Rudolf Bless, chief accounting officer, Bank of America; Gordon Edwards, chief financial officer, Marshfield Clinic Health System; Zachary Gast, global head of research, CFRA; Elizabeth Graseck, managing director, research, Morgan Stanley; David Schmid, partner, PwC; Amie Thuener, vice president, chief accountant, Alphabet; John White, partner—corporate, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP; and Teri Yohn, Conrad Prebys professor of accounting, Indiana University. Additionally, 11 members will retire from FASAC on Dec. 31, 2017: R. John Hofmann was named partner at Kabat, Schertzer, De La Torre, Taraboulos & Co., Miami, after his firm, JL Hofmann & Associates, Coral Gables, was merged into KSDT, along with the firm's staff of six professionals.

BDO USA announced new appointments: Alfredo Cepero as assurance managing partner, Vince Carrodeguas as assurance partner, and Madeline Elias as tax market leader, in the South Florida practice; Sandy Horowitz as tax managing partner in Miami; Daniel Castro as the tax managing partner in Fort Lauderdale; and Lori Myers as tax managing partner in West Palm Beach.

Scott Harper was hired as a principal in the business tax services practice at KPMG, Chicago, rejoining the firm.

KENTUCKY

Jim Tencza was named Louisville market leader of Dean Dorton Allen Ford, succeeding Gwen Tilton, who is retiring June 30, 2018, after 35 years with the firm. In the Lexington office, Jon Blanchard and Joe Daugherty were hired to the tax team; Heidi Hilliard and Bryan Rogers were hired to the technology team; and Shawn Stevison returned to the firm as an associate director of health care consulting.

MASSACHUSETTS

Ian Scotland was hired as general manager and vice president at AccuFund, Needham, working with Gordon Holfelder, who is assuming the role as president after serving as vice president since the company’s inception.

Mary Wade was hired as a tax senior manager at Gordon Advisors, Troy.

MISSOURI

KPM CPAs & Advisors, Springfield, announced new promotions, hires and designations earned. The firm promoted, to shareholder: Rebecca Friedrich, Angela Rebmann and Jessica Stokes; to supervisor: Tracy Hofer and A. Sunni Odle; and to senior: Meredith Bosso, Leslie Conklin, Hannah Montgomery, Sarah Skidmore and Freddie Young. KPM hired Ross Wiseman as a staff accountant and Kaleigh Cole and Megan Townsley as administrative assistants. Additionally, KPM’s Hannah Montgomery, senior, and Matthew Randolph, staff accountant, earned their CPA licenses.

Kelly Grier was appointed US chairman, managing partner-elect, and Americas Area partner-elect at Ernst & Young, succeeding Steve Howe, who has run EY’s U.S. firm since 2006 and will be retiring July 1, 2018. Grier, currently regional managing partner for the U.S. central region, will be the third woman to run a Big Four firm, joining Deloitte CEO Cathy Engelbert and KPMG chairman and CEO Lynn Doughtie. LBMC announced new hires in three offices. Brian Marynowitz was hired as a senior manager in the transaction advisory services group in Nashville. In the Chattanooga office, LBMC hired: Amber Blevins as a staff accountant in the audit group; Mary Catherine Fleming as a staff accountant, and Lucas Watson as a senior, in the tax group; and Janay Medina as a human resources account specialist for LBMC employment partners.
