Adelphia Hires Grant Thornton as New Auditor

Washington (Aug. 13, 2003) -- Bankrupt Adelphia Business Solutions hired it third auditor in two years this week, naming Grant Thornton as its new independent accountant.

The former cable giant, which once provided communications services to 80 markets, has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy since March 2002.

The firm fired Deloitte & Touche in 2002, shortly after serious accounting problems came to light, for allegedly failing to detect fraud committed by the Rigas brothers who controlled the company.

PricewaterhouseCoopers was then brought in as the company’s new auditor, and set about the task of restating the three previous years’ financial statements.

The 8-K filing on Monday didn’t disclose any more information about the change in auditors.

Adelphia Communications Corp. is the former corporate parent of Adelphia Business Solutions.
