AICPA awards over $449K in scholarships to minority students

The AICPA announced this week that 90 college accounting students across the country have been awarded the 2017-18 AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students.

Students were selected for the scholarship based on factors such as demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, and volunteer efforts. All students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed at least 30 college credit hours, six of which being accounting courses.

“The AICPA has a long history of promoting diversity in the accounting profession by providing gifted students with scholarships,” stated Joanne Fiore, AICPA vice president of Professional Media, Pathways and Inclusion. “The recipients of this year’s Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students represent the diverse talent that is essential for the profession to continue to flourish for years to come.”

Each student will receive a one-year scholarship and must complete at least eight hours of volunteer service, per semester, to promote accounting on their respective campuses.

The scholarship is part of the AICPA’s Legacy Scholars program, which has now awarded over $2 million in scholarships since its inception in 2011.
