AICPA presents 2018 'Medal of Inspiration'

The American Institute of CPAs announced that Jeffrey Deyoe, an undergraduate student at the University of Colorado, Boulder, has been honored with Beta Alpha Psi’s Medal of Inspiration Award. The award was presented last week at the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Sponsored by the AICPA, the annual award is given to an accounting student who has achieved a high level of success in the face of hardships and adversity. The award includes a $5,000 cash stipend.

Growing up in a troubled home, Deyoe went on to live with a close friend’s family under the condition that he attend classes at a local community college. Deyoe eventually graduated from community college with a 3.86 GPA and was accepted to the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2017. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a dual emphasis in accounting and finance.

Deyoe has made the University's Dean’s List every semester thus far, as well as serving on the Leeds Council Student Government. He is also the pledge vice president of finance for Delta Sigma Pi and is expected to be the next chapter president of Beta Alpha Psi.

“To see Jeffrey today, succeeding academically and giving back to his community, one would never know the immense hardships he overcame to get to this point,” said Yvonne Hinson, Association of International Certified Professional Accountants senior director - academic in residence, in a statement. “He is an inspiration to those around him and a reminder of the power of human perseverance in the face of adversity.”

Beta Alpha Psi, founded in 1919, is an international honor organization for financial information students and professionals. The organization looks to recognize scholastic and professional achievement, while also promoting the study of accounting, providing opportunities for self-development, and promoting ethical and social responsibility.
