Avalara teams with Wiley on Customs Duty & Import Tax for Dummies

Customs Duty & Import Tax for Dummies

Avalara, a provider of cloud-based tax compliance automation business software, has teamed up with the publisher John Wiley & Sons to produce “Customs Duty & Import Tax for Dummies,” an e-book that’s part of Wiley’s “for Dummies” line of instruction guides.

The e-book aims to help business owners and accounting professionals understand the nuances of cross-border sales, including the various wrinkles of figuring the total cost of shipping a product to a customer abroad. The guide helps tax professionals and their business clients estimate international customs duties and taxes and avoid rejected shipments. A free copy is available from Avalara at www.avalara.com/taxes-for-dummies.

“We created this new guide to help businesses of all sizes, as well as their advisors, get a leg up in understanding how to calculate total costs involved in shipping goods to a customer internationally, leading to a great buying experience and happy, recurring customers,” said Avalara chief marketing officer Jeremy Korst in a statement. “And, we’ve done it utilizing the popular, proven Dummies format. Expanding into new areas of the world is an exciting business decision that involves numerous complexities and unknowns. Avalara will continue to provide actionable resources to help businesses avoid compliance pitfalls and stay focused on growing their business.”

The “for Dummies” books have been around since 1991, when IDG Books published “DOS for Dummies” by Don Gookin, and it became a surprise best-seller. Wiley took over the franchise in 2001 when it acquired Hungry Minds.
