Baker Tilly International elects Tim Christen as chairman

Baker Tilly International has named Timothy Christen as the accounting firm network’s new chairman after he recently completed a term chairing the American Institute of CPAs.

Christen was CEO of the network’s U.S. firm, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, for 17 years, and he currently serves on the International Integrated Reporting Council. Christen has also been named by Accounting Today as one of the 100 Most Influential People in accounting and one of the MP Elite.

Christen was elected chairman by Baker Tilly International’s board of directors at its Americas Conference in Cancun, Mexico in June. He began a four-year term Monday during Baker Tilly’s World Conference in Amsterdam.

“I am proud to serve as chairman of Baker Tilly International,” Christen said in a statement. “We are an exceptionally strong network of firms who share an overriding commitment to quality, innovation and exceptional client service. It will be an honour to work with Baker Tilly International’s leadership and our member firms to drive growth for our clients and our network.”

“Tim has been a consistently indispensable contributor to our board of directors,” said Baker Tilly International president and CEO Ted Verkade in a statement. “He is a widely respected and highly regarded leader in our profession. We look forward to his ongoing guidance and influence on our network as its new chairman.”

Christen succeeds Jim Castellano, who was Baker Tilly International’s chairman for 15 years.

“I would like to thank Jim for his great leadership and guidance as chairman,” Verkade added. “He will continue to be an important asset to our network and I wish him the best on this new stage of his professional life.”
