Berdon merges in Koch Group and Company

Berdon LLP, a Top 100 Firm based in New York, has added Koch Group and Company, an accounting and tax advisory firm also based in New York, effective July 1.

As part of the deal, Stuart Koch, CPA, will be bringing his team of four partners and 20 professionals to Berdon’s midtown Manhattan office. Firm-wide, Berdon has 37 partners and 430 staff members.

“It’s a seamless transition,” Koch said in a statement. “Our clients will continue to receive the accounting and tax services they are accustomed to, but will also now benefit from a wider array of tax consulting and advisory services—including state and local tax; retirement, succession and estate planning; operational advisory; and asset valuation—through Berdon and its more than 400 professionals.”

Berdon ranked 38th on Accounting Today’s 2017 list of the Top 100 Firms. The firm earned revenue of $111.8 million for the year ending Dec. 31, 2016, while Koch Group’s revenue was $5.3 million. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Koch has specialized in offering tax planning and advisory services to high net worth individuals and their families and businesses since 1988. The firm targets the real estate, not-for-profit and charter schools sectors. It will now operate as Koch Group, a division of Berdon LLP.

“When we consider a merger candidate, we look to see if they can enhance our portfolio of services we’re providing and if they blend well with our culture," said Berdon managing partner Mark Bosswick in a statement. “Stuart and his team add a further layer of strength to our existing real estate expertise by providing additional specialization in the low income housing area.”
