Richard A. Berkowitz, director-in-charge of management consulting services at Berkowitz Dick Pollack & Brant CPAs and Consultants LLP, has been installed as president of the Florida Institute of CPAs. At a leadership conference here, Berkowitz laid out the theme for his presidency -- "Creating Community for Our Next Century: CPAs make Florida Work" -- and mapped out a number of strategic initiatives, including adding three new sections to the institute by 2008, establishing a leadership development program, identifying ways to keep membership dues reasonable, and improving the recruitment of young members. In an address to the membership, Berkowitz said, "I am proud of who we are and the essential role CPAs have in industry, government and our communities." FICPA, which serves over 18,000 CPAs and is the seventh-largest state CPA association, concluded a year-long celebration of its 100th anniversary in April.
