Best Continues Acquisition Path, Nabs Macabe

Irvine, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2004) -- Best Software continued on the acquisition path, buying the development division of Macabe Associates, one of the software vendor’s largest third-party developers.

The deal involves the purchase of Macabe’s Easy Solutions products, which include hundreds of add-on packages for Best’s MAS 90 and MAS 200 software. Alan Bryant, Macabe’s president, is joining Best as vice president of its Mid-Market Division and will manage the Easy Solutions development team, which will remain in Seattle. The group will work to incorporate Macabe’s products into the MAS product line’s Master Developer toolset.

Macabe is highly regarded by Best VARs, says Art Nathan, president of Solutions Strategists, a Cranford, N.J.-based MAS 90 reseller. “I estimate that 20 percent of our installed base uses Macabe products because of the high regard we have for Macabe,” says Nathan. Nathan says that Bryant is the kind of person “that when he talks, resellers listen.”

According to the Accounting Today 2003 Pacesetters report, Macabe employed 34 and had an estimated $4.5 million in annual revenue.
