Big Four, Grant Thornton honored with 'Volunteer Service Award'

Junior Achievement USA announced this week that it has honored 57 organizations - including five prominent accounting firms - with its 2016-2017 U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award.

Separated into Gold, Silver and Bronze levels, the award highlights organizations that have contributed 15,000, 10,000 and 5,000 volunteer hours, respectively, to their local Junior Achievement offices. The awards were presented at the JA Volunteer Summit on March 13, 2018 in New York.

"Junior Achievement volunteers are important mentors for young people, bringing our programs to life," stated Jack Kosakowski, president and CEO of Junior Achievement USA. "Each year, more than 243,000 JA volunteers share their experiences and skills with students while delivering our programs, teaching them how to manage their money, succeed in the workforce, or start a business that creates jobs and grows the economy. The recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Awards are leaders in this effort and critical to helping JA inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy."

The following accounting firms were honored with the 2016-17 U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award:

"Gold" Award (15,000+ volunteer hours)

  • Deloitte
  • EY
  • KPMG
  • PwC

"Bronze" Award (5,000+ volunteer hours)

  • Grant Thornton

The award was established in 2003 by then-president George W. Bush to highlight volunteer contributions in local communities and to encourage more individuals to donate their time. Junior Achievement became an official certifying organization for the award in 2006, which recognizes U.S. corporations that provide volunteers to teach JA programs around the world.
