Deloitte opens new tech research center

Deloitte has opened the Deloitte Center for Technology, Media and Telecommunications to help clients identify effective technology-driven business models. The center is a virtual hub, with no physical location, and any technology, media or telecommunications clients of the firm can make use of its resources.

The TMT center will be tasked with conducting research with a focus on business impact, as well as new technologies and trends. The research is aimed helping executives simplify complex business issues and ask the right questions to remain competitive, both today and in the near future.

The TMT center is led by Jeff Loucks, executive director of Deloitte Services LP. Loucks is an award-winning author, research executive and thought leader. He co-authored the book “Digital Vortex,” which outlines ways in which organizations can adopt digital business models to compete effectively against digital disruptors.

“In today’s disruptive climate, tech, media and telecom companies can't afford to chart the wrong path. Fear of falling behind and faith in the latest transformative technology can lead even the smartest leaders astray,” said Loucks in a statement. “Our research and insights help simplify complex issues so business executives can spot hidden opportunities and make timely, informed and confident choices.”

One of the first research reports to come out of TMT focuses on what cognitive technologies can offer businesses today, and how business can make use of the technology as it matures. The center will also examine how TMT companies are transforming via new digital business models enabled by cloud computing, the internet of things, mobility and flexible consumption (“pay-as-you-go”), among other issues. Finally, the center will explore the future of computing, consumption and connectivity, so TMT companies can stay abreast of evolving consumer behaviors.
