E-Tax Administration Committee Moves on Free Web-Filing

Free Web-filing for taxpayers nudged a step closer to reality this week when the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee on June 6 announced it approves of movements that Bush administration officials and software industry leaders have taken on to bring free Web-filing to millions of taxpayers, according to Tax Analysts.

ETAAC Chair Kevin Belden, a revenue services executive with IBM Global Services and the former chief information officer for New York State's Department of Taxation & Finance, also announced that the congressionally created panel will endorse a proposal coming out of the negotiations to form a public-private consortium to make free Web-filing options available by the 2003 tax season.
