Eide Bailly merges in Decipher Forensics

Eide Bailly LLP, a Top 100 accounting firm, has added Decipher Forensics, a digital forensics and data recovery firm based in American Fork, Utah.

The deal is the latest in a string of merger deals for the rapidly expanding regional accounting and advisory firm. Eide Bailly, based in Fargo, N.D., ranked 19th on Accounting Today’s 2017 list of the Top 100 Firms.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Eide Bailly had revenues of $263 million in fiscal year 2017, while Decipher’s most recent revenue number was $500,000. The deal will add three managers and an associate from Decipher to Eide Bailly’s team. No partners are coming on board, however.

Decipher is an “eDiscovery” firm specializing in computer and cell phone forensics. “Decipher Forensics’ talent and commitment to client service are a perfect match for Eide Bailly,” said Eide Bailly director of forensic services Jeremy Bendewald in a statement. “Digital forensics, eDiscovery and data recovery are critical elements in assisting our clients. Our forensics team will now have even more experience and resources to help our clients navigate their circumstances.”

Decipher Forensics’ staff will be moving into Eide Bailly’s office in Lehi, Utah, in the spring. Eide Bailly is Utah’s biggest accounting and business advisory firm and has offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Lehi and Orem.

“This union is going to be the best of both worlds for our clients,” said Decipher Forensics CEO Trent Leavitt in a statement. “They will continue to get the same dedicated local service they have come to expect, and now they will have access to more resources that can help them succeed. We’re really excited for the opportunities this will create for everyone involved.”

Eide Bailly did a number of mergers last year, including with Heider, Tanner & Dirks in Denver; Davis Kinard in Texas; Spring2 Technologies in Lehi, Utah; Hawkins Advisors in Orem, Utah; Roth & Co. in Des Moines, Iowa; and Langenhorst & Self-Merritt CPAs in Spokane, Wash.
