EY staff volunteers for 2017 Connect Day

Earlier this month on October 6, over 21,000 EY professionals helped volunteer at 582 nonprofit organizations for the Big Four firm's 2017 Connect Day. Staff members across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and South America helped complete approximately 770 service projects in all.

Started in 2010, EY's Connect Day has now donated 530,500 volunteer hours to help communities across the Americas.

Due to recent events, EY's Houston office focused their volunteer efforts this year on the effects of Hurricane Harvey. The office ultimately held 27 volunteer projects in the city, with the help of 1,200 EY volunteers.

“EY Connect Day is a day to reflect on the greater purpose of our company – to build a better working world by enhancing the lives of others through volunteerism,” stated Deborah Holmes, EY Americas' director of corporate responsibility. “From cleaning up neighborhoods in Houston through the Harvey Disaster Relief Initiative to coaching the next generation of entrepreneurs through the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, EY volunteers are helping their communities while strengthening their own professional skills and expanding their networks with like-minded peers.”

Other volunteer activities this year included teaching personal finance and entrepreneurship skills to young people, helping with student career planning, and one-on-one mentoring sessions.
