The Financial Planning Association, Ameriprise Financial, and the Certified Financial Planner Board have announced the eight collegiate finalists of their co-sponsored 2017 Financial Planning Challenge.

The three-stage event looks to invite colleges and universities with finance undergraduate degree programs registered with the CFP Board, or other related programs, to compete.

Teams representing California State University – Northridge; Texas A&M University; Texas Tech University; University of Akron; University of Georgia; University of Illinois – Champaign-Urbana; Utah Valley University; and Winthrop University have all reached the final stage of competition this year. The teams will compete at the FPA Annual Conference, held Oct. 2-4 in Nashville, Tenn.

“With our wonderful partners at CFP Board and Ameriprise Financial, we are able to provide these students a terrific platform where they can showcase their knowledge while connecting with some of the profession’s leading practitioners and thought leaders,” stated FPA executive director/CEO Lauren Schadle. “These students and faculty have worked hard to secure a place in the finals of the Financial Planning Challenge and we look forward to welcoming them to the FPA Annual Conference in October.”

Teams participate in the competition via three stages: A written financial planning case study, a case study presentation, and a “How Do You Know?” knowledge quiz. The case study presentation and quiz will take place during the FPA Annual Conference, with the top three winning teams receiving scholarships for their schools.

“These talented individuals from CFP Board-Registered Programs who are participating in the Financial Planning Challenge represent the future of the financial planning profession,” said CFP Board CEO Kevin Keller, per a statement. “We are pleased to once again support, along with FPA and Ameriprise Financial, an opportunity for them to showcase their work, connect with CFP® professionals and become even more engaged in the profession.”
