The summer interns of Crowe Horwath LLP, Oak Brook, collected more than 3,500 books, toys and shoes for charities across 15 communities in eight states. Approximately 80 interns participated in the collection. The interns were also asked to spend two hours reading to children in their communities, resulting in more than 175 hours of reading time.

TENNESSEE

Crowe Horwath LLP has established the Crowe Horwath Accounting Excellence Endowment to support the University of Tennessee's Department of Accounting and Information Management in its College of Business Administration. Funded by University of Tennessee alumni in the firm's Knoxville and Nashville offices and by Crowe Horwath, the firm guarantees that a minimum of $25,000 will be donated over a five-year period. The fund is part of the Campaign for Tennessee, a $1 billion fundraising effort at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

VIRGINIA

The Virginia Society of CPAs, Richmond, marked its 100th anniversary with an event at Richmond CPA Center in early October. With just 19 charter members, the VSCPA was originally established on Oct. 6, 1909, to help draft legislation that would create a regulatory body to govern the CPA profession in Virginia. The following spring, the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation to form the Virginia Board of Accountancy, making Virginia the 21st state to have such a regulatory law in place.
