H&R Block offers prep scholarships to military spouses

H&R Block is offering full tax-preparation scholarships for the spouses of active, reserve, wounded and retired military personnel.

Block has granted more than $200,000 in scholarship funds to thousands of military spouses in 2016. The scholarship covers the cost of books and printed course materials. Tuition for the Income Tax Course is free.

The course curriculum includes: wages, income and taxes; filing requirements; exemptions and adjustments; interest and dividends; itemized deductions; and credits, among other topics.

Enrolling in the class is not a guarantee of employment with Block, but more than 67 percent of graduates who participated in the scholarship program became tax professionals for Block in 2017, the company said.
