SURVEY: CAREER OPS NO. 1 FOR ACCOUNTING STUDENTS

New York - Accounting students said that career opportunities matter most to them, according to a new survey by KPMG.

In the survey of 2,026 accounting students nationwide, 43 percent said that career opportunities would be their top criteria when choosing an employer, followed by 20 percent who cited an employer's reputation and culture. Salary and benefits, at 14 percent, were a much lower priority.

When it comes to entering the workforce, 48 percent of the accounting students indicated that work/life balance would be their primary concern, a significantly higher proportion than the 20 percent who cited job security and money matters, such as whether they would have enough money to pay their bills and support their lifestyle.

When asked to what extent the opportunity of a global assignment during their first few years on the job would affect their decision to accept an offer from an employer, 44 percent said that it would have some impact, followed by 42 percent who said that it would have a significant impact. Fourteen percent said that it would have no impact.

AICPA IMPROVES CPE GRADING SITE

New York - The American Institute of CPAs has enhanced its CPE Online Grading Site with improved navigation, new exam features and a simplified log-in process.

The site now provides clearer directions on the ability to stop and start an unfinished exam at any time with an auto-save feature. A final review summary page allows exam takers to see all their answers in a condensed format before submitting their exams. The site also now offers feedback on incorrect answers for follow-up study when a user successfully completes an exam.

AICPA CPE Online Grading is free and available for any AICPA self-study course in text, DVD and CD-ROM formats. The AICPA did the site upgrade in collaboration with CPA2Biz, the AICPA's marketing and technology subsidiary, based on feedback from a survey of over 2,000 users. The site can be found at http://cpegrading.aicpa.org.
