Indiana CPA Society CEO Gary Bolinger to retire

The Indiana CPA Society's longtime president and CEO, Gary Bolinger, plans to retire at the end of the year after 33 years of service.

The INCPAS’s current senior vice president and chief operating officer Jennifer Briggs will succeed him and begin serving as president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2018.

Bolinger joined INCPAS as field activities director in 1984 and became interim executive director in 1990. He was named full-time executive director in 1991, and president and CEO in 1999. During his tenure, INCPAS has gone through a restructuring, become increasingly involved in legislative and regulatory issues, revamped its strategic planning process, introduced diversity programs, and put in place the INCPAS Professional Issues Update. Bolinger also led INCPAS in establishing the award-winning CPA Center of Excellence, developing an integrated report for the society, marking INCPAS’s centennial anniversary, and helping make Indiana the first state in the U.S. to add competency-based learning as an option for renewing a CPA license.

“Gary has been an outstanding CEO,” said INCPAS chairman John Sauder in a statement. “He is the driving force that’s put INCPAS in the pioneering state it’s in today.”

His successor, Briggs, earned praise from the incoming chairman. “Jennifer is well prepared to take on this role,” said INCPAS chair-elect Doug York in a statement. “She brings talent in many areas, not least of which is her ability to connect with all our members, regardless what field or stage of their career they’re in.”
