IRS Offers Webcast on the Right to Appeal

Washington (Sept. 9, 2004) -- The Internal Revenue Service is hosting a Webcast this month on audit and collection issue appeals and alternative dispute resolution options.

The Webcast, Appeal It! Or, What's Next When You and the IRS Just Don't Agree?, will be broadcast Sept. 14 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. EDT at www.taxtalktoday.tv. Tax professionals, IRS enrolled agents, financial planners and payroll professionals are eligible to receive continuing education credits.

During September’s Tax Talk Today broadcast, IRS appeals officers will alert practitioners to factors being considered by the Appeals Division. Practitioners working on IRS enforcement issues will get information that will help them and their clients craft more effective appeals. After an open discussion, the panelists will answer e-mailed, faxed or phoned-in viewer questions about appeals and matters of IRS enforcement.

Panel members will include Jeffrey Allison, IRS director of tax policy and procedure; David B. Robison, IRS chief of appeals; Steven R. Anderson, co-founder of the Denver law firm of Anderson & Jahde PC, specializing in civil and criminal tax controversy; Jim Dougherty, tax division for the national office of Deloitte & Touche and past director of appeals at the IRS; and moderator Les Witmer, a communications consultant and 23-year veteran of the IRS.
