Lurie expands to Florida with Hagen Palen deal

Minneapolis-based accounting firm Lurie LLP has expanded its footprint to Florida by adding Hagen Palen & Co. CPAs, effective Feb. 9, 2018.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Lurie ranked No. 8 on Accounting Today’s 2018 Regional Leaders list of the Top Firms in the Midwest, with $29.25 million in annual revenue.

Lurie is one of the top accounting firms in the Twin Cities area and offers a variety of services, including tax planning, assurance, wealth management, retirement plan design and administration, technology consulting, transaction planning, accounting and payroll tax outsourcing.

“We are excited to welcome the employees, clients and friends of Hagen Palen into our firm,” said Lurie managing partner Beth Kieffer Leonard in a statement. “Over the past 78 years, we have been strategic about our firm’s growth and identifying opportunities that position us properly for the future. This expansion of our geographic footprint allows us to continue to provide great service to our clients in this region along with the clients of Hagen Palen that they have served for years.”

Hagen Palen is a CPA firm that has offered audit, tax and consulting services in the greater Southwest Florida area, including Fort Myers and Naples, since 1979. It is now operating under the Lurie name.

“As a result of this combination, our combined practice will have access to a larger pool of technical skills in tax planning, accounting and auditing, as well as additional business management, financial and consulting services,” said co-founder Jim Hagen in a statement.

“We have a shared focus in delivering the highest level of personalized service and professionalism to our clients,” added co-founder Howard Palen. “With the addition of Lurie’s depth of service and expertise, we are now able to better serve our client’s growing needs and future growth opportunities,”

After adding Hagen Palen, Lurie will have more than 160 employees at offices in Minneapolis and Fort Myers.
