Marks Paneth merges in Buck Sturmer

Marks Paneth LLP, a Top 100 Firm, has added Buck, Sturmer & Co., effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Both firms are based in New York City. Buck Sturmer also has an office in Rye, N.Y. It specializes in offering accounting, tax and consulting services to high-net-worth individuals, families and businesses, and has been in business for more than 50 years.

The deal adds managing partner Douglas Buck and co-founder Richard C. Sturmer, who will both become partners at Marks Paneth. The deal will add the two partners and 20 staff members to Marks Paneth’s 85 partners and 579 staff.

“When making this important decision for the future of our firm and clients, we looked for a business partner that would maintain the high levels of service and expertise our clients expect,” Buck said in a statement. “I am confident that Marks Paneth is the best firm to accomplish this.”

Marks Paneth ranked 30th on Accounting Today’s 2017 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $128 million in annual revenue. Financial details were not disclosed.

“An important element of our firm’s strategic vision is the acquisition of talent that enhances our existing strengths and specializations—and that is exactly what our new colleagues from Buck Sturmer bring,” said Marks Paneth managing partner Harry Moehringer in a statement.
