Neat expands partnerships with scanner manufacturers

Following the departure from its own branded scanners, The Neat Company, which provides document management and bookkeeping software, has expanded its partnership program with external scanner manufacturers.

The company’s hardware certification program enables Neat customers to use personal and workgroup scanners from certain partner manufacturers with Neat software. The scanner brands currently offered as plug-and-play options with Neat are HP, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Canon and Brother.

Neat software users can use these brands of scanners to scan and upload documents such as receipts and invoices directly into the Neat software.

“Our hardware certification process is meticulous and extensive,” said Andrew Schaps, vice president of development for Neat, in a statement. “We bring the third-party scanners into our lab and run rigorous tests on both setup and configuration using industry standards, namely TWAIN compliance. We work to facilitate a seamless integration between the hardware and our software so that our users can connect easily and benefit immediately.”

TWAIN is the standard interface between software programs and image-capturing devices. Nearly all scanners contain a TWAIN driver, called the data source, but only TWAIN-compatible software can use the technology.
